The Zone Bar

If you're wandering through Brighton’s lively Kemptown neighborhood and in the mood for a night that blends music, cocktails, and full-on vibes, The Zone Bar at 33 St James's Street is your kind of place. It’s not just another bar-it’s one of Brighton’s best-kept secrets for locals and curious travelers looking for a bit of flair after sunset.

Walking into The Zone Bar, you instantly feel that energetic pulse. The venue leans into a casual, inclusive atmosphere where the drinks flow freely, the music fills every corner, and nobody takes themselves too seriously. With a focus on great cocktails and live performances, it quickly sets itself apart from your average watering hole. Whether you’re a fan of classic mixes or modern concoctions, the bar staff know their spirits and are always happy to whip up something tailored to your taste.

Speaking of taste, if you're someone who loves karaoke nights or can't resist a stage when live music is on, The Zone has your name written all over it. There’s a steady rotation of DJs, drag performances, and local musical talent that adds flair to every night. It’s got that raw, unfiltered fun that doesn’t try too hard-it just happens naturally.

The venue is known for its welcoming vibe and inclusive energy, especially popular among the LGBTQ+ community and anyone looking for a space that celebrates freedom of expression. It’s not flashy, it’s not overly curated-it’s authentic, and that’s what makes it work. From spontaneous dance-offs to group singalongs, The Zone Bar brings people together in the most unpretentious way.

And let’s not skip over the drink selection. Beyond the cocktails, the bar serves up a strong lineup of beer, wine, and spirits. If you’re into gin-based drinks, bold whiskey pours, or fruity rum punches, you’ll find something here that hits the spot. The prices are fair, and there’s always a buzz at the counter. Plus, they really know how to pace the crowd, keeping service quick even when the bar’s packed.

There’s no takeaway or delivery here-what The Zone offers is all about the in-person experience. It’s about being present, soaking in the music, and maybe belting out a few notes yourself. The dance floor? Oh, it's not massive, but it’s lively. You’re never more than a beat away from joining a groove circle or clapping along with a drag queen’s finale.

Accessibility-wise, the entrance is wheelchair-accessible, and basic amenities like a toilet are available, making it comfortable enough for extended hangs. It's worth noting that there's no dedicated accessible parking, so if you’re planning a visit, it's smart to look into nearby parking options ahead of time.

If you’re exploring nightlife in Brighton and want something that feels a little gritty, a little glam, and a lot of fun, this is where the locals would nudge you. The Zone Bar doesn’t rely on gimmicks-it thrives on personality. Every night can be different: one evening could be a singalong karaoke showdown, the next might feature sultry live jazz or a drag show that brings the house down.

For those who love venues with personality over polish, and rhythm over routine, this bar stands out. It’s where moments happen naturally-one round of tequila shots at a time.

Great place. I've been here a couple of times, and it always differs slightly in the ambience. The last time - a great, entertaining chat with some, er, more vintage working-class chaps. Great fun.

I was on my own, Sat 10 May 2025 and was made very welcome by the lovely lady behind the bar (wonderful eye make up!) very friendly and chatty (I was in full leathers for another event) Davina Sparkle was on stage, also very chatty, friendly and seriously funny! A wonderful start to my night out in Brighton. Paul.

This place is one of my favourite places in brighton. It has a great community and the staff are lovely, Skye the bartender is brilliant, she is fun, friendly and makes everyone feel welcome. Thursday karaoke hosted by Alex is always a highlight of my week, she is a great host, and she makes everyone feel comfortable on stage! Also, the drinks are well priced as well, which I'm sure is the main question.

Under new management since a few months ago, still have the same great selection of beers and spirits. Regular live acts which pull in quite a crowd. Clean and plenty of seating. Good looking bar with very helpful staff. Like popping in here for a quick one now and again.
